Russia to support Gazprom as Ukraine wants to arrest its assets

NEVINNOMYSSK, Stavropol Region, Mar 13 (PRIME) -- The Russian government will provide all-round support to gas giant Gazprom due to Ukraine’s wish to arrest assets of the company, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich told reporters on Tuesday.

“(Our support will be) all-round,” he said.

In December 2017 and in February 2018, the Stockholm arbitration court obliged Gazprom to redeem U.S. $2.56 billion to Naftogaz Ukrainy in a suit on natural gas and gas transit contracts.

The Russian company said that decisions violated the balance of parties in favor of Kiev, and decided to challenge the decisions and cancel the contracts with Naftogaz Ukrainy through the court.

On Monday, Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko said that Kiev prepared legal plans to levy execution of the fine on assets of Gazprom all around the world.
